Fleet and Crookham Local History Group uses material from the Group archive to answer enquiries, put on displays about local history and publish articles.
The Group actively seeks additions to what is now a substantial collection relating to the heritage of Fleet, Church Crookham and Crookham Village. People who see our displays, hear our talks or contact us through the website, learn of the archive and the Group is grateful to all those who contribute to it. Sometimes, an enquiry, say about a house and the people who lived there, leads to a useful exchange of information.
The archive collection includes photographs, postcards, house deeds, maps, minutes of local clubs and organisations, oral history, bill heads, property sale particulars, books and pamphlets. The catalogue runs to over 16,200 entries and in 2021 alone, 63 items were added. An 'item' may be one photo or a collection of memorabilia. There are over 70,000 scanned images. Not everything has been scanned or photographed yet, so volunteers are helping.
When someone offers something to the archive they may loan it for copying or donate it. It will be given a unique number, catalogued and scanned or photographed. This means that the information can be easily accessed and the original protected.
To anyone who, while clearing out or moving house, finds some bits and pieces that were of interest to them, which they no longer wish to keep but are reluctant to throw away, we say 'put them in a bag and contact us as we would be interested to see them'.
Although the archive is not openly available, it will be searched for answers to any enquiry. We welcome enquiries about any aspect of Fleet and Crookham's past. Tell us what you know and what you would like to find out and we will try to help.
